Featuring Mexico City gallery artist Felipe Linares “alebrijes” (paper-maché) master craftsman!
Paper Maché by the legendary Linares Family has not been available in San Miguel for several years. Their work is widely collected internationally, and is now being represented in San Miguel by Galería Atotonilco. Many travelers to Mexico are familiar with the friendly monsters and fanciful animals known as alebrijes. There is a wide misconception that they were invented by the wood carvers of Oaxaca, who today carve them in profusion. But in reality, paper maché artist Pedro Linares, father to Felipe Linares invented them. |
