In the 1930s, Pedro Linares invented both the term “alebrije,” which came to him in a dream, and the fanciful monsters that this word describes. Many Linares family members still create the colorful, captivating paper maché sculptures, superb examples of high quality Mexican folk art. The gallery will feature them for Day of the Dead. .
